Case Study Title: HRP: Late Night Entertainment Alliance
Description: The Monterey Late Night Entertainment Alliance is an informal group of night clubs, cafes, bars, and other late night venues organized in coorperation with the local law enforcement and regulatory agencies to provide an ongoing forum for disucssion and resolution of common issues occuring after the end of the traditional business day.
Problem Statement: Late night businesses are often challenged with overcoming a negative image and one late night businesses` success is directly linked to the sucesss of others in the community. Therefore it is imperative that owners and operators of late night facilites get together and collaborate to achieve the highest level of sucess and further enhance their business` image. Further, because their businesses often require them to work non-traditional hours it can be difficult for them to access resources available during the hours relating to more traditional business operators.
Stakeholders: Late night businesses, police department
Process: Identify and convene representatives from late night businesses. Organize and publicize trainings as needed and/or available. Compile data for New Business Orientations. Conduct Risk Assessments for businesses that request them.
Outcome: Establishment of relationships and ongoing communication between late night businesses. Business owners and operators were given the tools to enhance their ability to engage in proactive approaches to issues and respond accordingly. Development of a collaborative partnership of businesses to share in publicity and promotions about the late night district in additon to each individual business.
Challenges and Lessons Learned: Outreach to late night business due to hours and attitudes can be difficult. Late night businesses traditionally view other late night businesses strictly as competitors. Due to non-traditional hours, finding a meeting time that works for everyone can be difficult. Correspondance one-on-one is best but can be time consuming.
